I Heart Warner
Lani, from the swank digs...
Well, I made it to Portland just fine, and the flights were lovely. I got bumped up to First Class (woo hoo!) and it was a lot of fun bringing the white trash element that so few First Classers get to experience.
But this isn't about that. This is about the five star hotel in which Warner has put me up. Me, I'm a coach/Motel 6 girl, so walking into my room and finding a full honor bar and this....

a plush stuffed bear which has been in this room, I'm sure, for quite some time and I'm certain has witnessed things I'm not anxious to pay $32 (!!!) to cosmically attach to myself
... was just a teensy bit of a culture shock. I also am completely incapable of sticking Warner for $5 for a bag of peanuts, so the honor bar isn't being touched, but still... I have one. That counts.
If you're in Portland, catch me at Powell's tonight! I'll try to give these little mini-updates as I can...
I have an honor bar. :::snicker:::

I just finished reading your book, and enjoyed it very much. I hope you're having fun traveling around the country. I will try to make it to one of the seattle signings.

HA I am SO with you on the peanuts. Last time Warner put me up, I could not sleep and I wanted to watch a movie. I dressed, went downstairs, and made the guy PRE PAY FOR THE MOVIE with my AMEX so HORRIFIED was I that a 12 buck movie charge might show up at Warner's door, demanding payment. And then what if the bill did not SHOW THE FILM NAME? I rented HELL BOY but COME ON if it just said FILM RENTEL you KNOW they are going to think "porn."

UPDATE: Lani, bought your book last night. I just read your bio in the back and was amazed to read you'd completed the first draft for TOFGB during the 2002 NaNoWriMo! Good for you! This year will be my second year participating in NaNoWriMo.
Can't wait to get started reading your book, girl!

Lani:
I'm the ML for Portland and we met on Monday night.
I wanted to tell you that what you said about getting to the next thing that happens (not giving lunch and dinner equal time if you talked about breakfast) was just what I needed to hear. Last year I got so frustrated when it took 30 pages to get to the next new scene. I have a great feeling about this year and your advice is a big part of why I am so optimistic.
Thanks so much,
Nicole
