And the winner is . . .

Alesia, live from the red carpet (or, you know, the brown couch

For this week, I thought I’d do a “Bad Decision Tuesday” – like the unbelievable hideousness of the decision to actually publish a book like this .

But since I’m sitting here telling Princess for the 400th time to go to bed so she’ll be vaguely human at 6:30 in the morning when we have to get up for the bus (sadly, giving coffee to a five-year-old is usually frowned upon) and watching the Golden Globe awards (and talk about Bad Decisions, doesn’t Drew Barrymore have a stylist, or, you know, FRIENDS, who could say to her, PUT ON A BRA, GIRLFRIEND??), I thought I’d ramble on in my looongwinded way about award shows.

Love ‘em. Hate ‘em. Have a sort of train-wreck-style fascination with ‘em.

Being seriously brain-dead from deadline, all I have are a few random thoughts and some questions to throw out there. Please weigh in!

Sir Anthony Hopkins is such an amazing actor – how fabulous to see him honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award. I was TERRIFIED by his character Hannibal Lecter. Seriously. Slept with the lights on for days after I saw it. I think my favorite role of his, though, was in THE REMAINS OF THE DAY . So incredibly complex and sad. And I love Emma Thompson so much, I’d probably pay to watch her act out her grocery list.

What was your favorite Hopkins movie? Who is your favorite British actor?

And speaking of villains, who do you think was the scariest movie villain of all time?

I really loved so many of the dresses this year – Sandra Oh, Felicity Huffman and Geena Davis come to mind. If you watched, which dress did you love? Which one did you hate?

In the Look How Far They’ve Come category, think about Director Extraordinaire Clint Eastwood. The man used to star in movies with a monkey. And now he’s the last word in major directorial talent. Makes me feel hopeful that I, too, one day can . . . Ah, hell. It just makes me want to go buy a monkey.

In the “movie that surprised me the most” category, WALK THE LINE with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I didn’t know much about Johnny Cash’s life and wasn’t particularly interested to learn before I went, but I saw the film and was very moved by it. I thought the actors did a wonderful job of portraying such a difficult period in Mr. Cash’s life without turning it into a celebrity-addiction-of-the-week special.

What movie that you saw in 2005 surprised you the most, in either a good or bad way?

And just because I have to ask (and we KNOW what you think, Lani!), which version of PRIDE & PREJUDICE was your favorite? I hate to be a weenie and wimp out on this one, but I loved them both. Just watched (again) the Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle version and it is spectacular, but I must admit I LOVE Matthew Macfadyen in the new one. So, please weigh in and don’t let Lani’s overt prejudice for Colin (get it? PREJUDICE? GET IT? GET IT?? Oops, sorry, still stuck on knock knock jokes) influence you one way or the other!

Finally, apropros of absolutely nothing, why does the FREAKING VOLUME of commercials jack up so much higher than the show itself? Doesn’t that tick you off??

Okay, I’ve rambled on long enough. I need to go clean off the Rovertable. He was a good dog . . .

I adore Sir Anthony, and was recently surprised by The Human Stain. Good movie! Call me crazy, but that guy is sexy! Yes, I like them old and have a thing for Wolf Blitzer, too. Yikes.

Then there's Joaquin! Can't spell his name, but I could sure shout it out an appropriate moment. Wow! When did I become such a... well, Lani knows my term for this... (BTW, I have heard about nothing but Johnny Cash since I was married nearly 12 years ago. Had nada interest in him until... well, Joaquin can change a girl's opinion, okay??)

Speaking of men that can change a girl's opinion, Matthew Macfadyen could come close, but there is nothing like dear Colin. Give me a pent-up emotionless Brit who can be a mad man when he cuts loose anyday!

Man. I think I need a cold shower!

Scariest movie villain? For me, it's the Halloween guy. I only saw the first one. I was in high school (yes, I'm that old) and, at one point, got so scared that I actually ripped my boyfriend's sleeve off his shirt.

I'll go prop my feet on the Fluffy Ottoman and think about your other questions. :-)

Scariest movie guy? Freddie Krueger. Love those Nightmare on Elm Street movies! I think the best movie in 2005 I saw was Polar Express....or was that early this year? I've slept since then! lol

I love Shadowlands. I remember taking a field trip to see it in high school and I cried through it. Some thought I was weird, but it was a wonderful movie. As for my fav Brit, toss up between Colin Firth and Alan Rickman. I swoon over them both.

As for dresses, I love the one Felicity Huffman wore. It was simple but so elegant and she was just wonderful to look at.

Okay, I know I'm weird, but Polar Express creeped me out in a big way. The empty buildings with that weird music?? Very Twilight Zone creeptastic to me. Or maybe I just read too much Stephen King . . . lol

And I can't BELIEVE this, but I'd never heard of Shadowlands!! Am immediately taking myself to Netflix to rent it!

I never saw either the Krueger or the Halloween movies (or are they the same thing?). Not really a gore person. I prefer the psychological horror to a splash fest. Although the vampire Pomeranian in Blade III (Navy Guy dragged me) was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Okay, WHAT was up with the Golden Globes this year? I've never seen a suckier show, production-wise. Their lower third graphics covered the faces of the presenters, they had winners squeezing through an unnavigable sea of others, and the open was like something from a Terry Gilliam movie.

That aside - I haven't seen the new P&P, and I'm sure Matthew McFadyen or whatever his name is, is a lovely fellow, but Colin is the best Darcy ever and nothing will ever change my mind about that. But, yes. I should get out and see it.

And Sandra Oh was lovely. And not to get all Mr. Blackwell, but what the hell were some of those women thinking? Rachel Wiesz, who is usually beautiful, looked downright terrifying with that makeup, hair and dress. And Drew Barrymore and Emma Thompson desperately needed bras. Not to mention that green block of material Drew was wearing? She's gorgeous and she looked awful. Yargh. Then again, maybe it was the lighting making all the gorgeous people look so bad; with that production team, I wouldn't be surprised.

But... um... yeah. That's enough of from me. I really just came on to say that Colin is the loveliest Darcy ever. ;)

Hmm. Colin or Matthew? Sorry, I just can't choose. I love them both as Darcy but they both gave such different performances that it's impossible for me to compare.

And eek, I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror movies, but the funniest spoof horror movie I've seen is "Shawn of the Dead." Very funny, despite the zombies.

And best dress at the Golden Globes? That's a tough one, but I thought Rachel Weisz looked lovely!

And Hugh Laurie was adorable at the Golden Globes, too!

Alesia and Lani, you may have Colin and Matthew if only I can have Hugh, sigh!
