There's a Battle?
We don't need no stinkin' battle.
I am the only girl in my house.
Things One and Two are, as they say, all boy so there are almost always dirty soccer cleats, rockclimbing gear or footballs strewn around my living room and they think a really good movie is one that has at least three car chases and five explosions. Cowboy is most decidedly male. Even the cats are male.
Nobody but me in this house understands potpourri, cares about what kind of heel a pair of shoes has or watches TV shows to see what people are wearing.
This is the exact opposite of how I grew up.
I have two sisters and no brothers. The best times of my childhood were vacations spent with my aunt and uncle and their three daughters. I grew up thinking that a high-pitched squeal was an appropriate means of communication and a really good movie was one that made you cry for at least a half an hour.
I have adjusted though. I have learned that here at my house, I am the Queen Bee and there is no one to challenge me. That does have it's advantages. If something pink shows up here, I get it and I don't have to share. Everyone has to stand by the door and wait for me to be ready to go. No one ever uses up the tampons and forgets to say anything about it or takes my favorite shirt and spills something on it or breaks my favorite eyeliner.
So I've been thinking about this Battle of the Sexes thing and how it's really not much of a battle in my house. I've given up on the toilet seat thing and have learned to look before I sit. They've learned to watch a parade of outfits and help me decide which one to wear. If I want to watch a really good movie, I've learned which ones make Cowboy cry.
It's all a series of adjustments. I doubt I'm alone. Are any of you outnumbered in your houses? Or maybe you're a member of the majority? What adjustments have you made?
Battle of the Sexes Week is brought to you by Don’t Look Down, Jenny Crusie and Bob Mayer's new Romantic Adventure, in stores April 4th!

Not counting our pugs (both female) we're split down the middle. So we all get to take turns choosing the video on family pizza and video night and we all suffer being dragged to each other's necessary shopping trips sometimes. Princess even has an expression: "A fate worse than Home Depot!!"

Now that our daughter's on another continent, I'm outnumbered 3 to 1.
I'm now the only one in the house who's capable of finding anything that's not located in plain sight directly in front of me.

I had to come out of lurking to weigh in here. I'm completely outnumbered. I have a very male husband and 4 sons. Even the dog is a boy. I've grown use to it but occasionally the testosterone is a bit overwhelming. The wrestling and beating on each other, the bodily functions and name calling... well, it's toughened me up. Still sometimes...

I hear ya, honey! I have three boys and a husband! There's two more if you count the pets. When our third son was born, I announced, "I want my own bathroom. Now."
I'm still waiting.

Yes, the testosterone fests sometimes completely overwhelm me. I'm glad I'm not alone.

I'm pretty sure the females outnumber the males in my household--that includes the pets! Either way, we girls are louder and get our way MUCH more often than the guys! Last night my husband found himself in a unique situation for him--we went to DD#1's concert last night and we ended up taking a couple of her friends with us. Went out to pizza afterwards and he found himself in the company of ALL women! He NEVER gets to do this, since he usually has to work late, so it was a lot of fun to see him trying to figure out what to do with so many girls! DEFINITELY out of his element! But he was a trooper and bought a huge pizza and drinks and rootbeer floats for all of us and had a really good time while he was at it! AND he didn't fall asleep during the concert, even when they sang a requiem from Mozart in Latin, so he gets extra points!
Usually we just split up via gender for any activities--hubby and the boy go one way, me and the girls go the other way. Neither tread on the other's territory. Works well for us!

Until Teenager #1 deserted us for a year in the UK followed by college (sniffle), we were split down the middle (with me secretly in charge, of course, but don't tell them that). Now it's just me and the boys, and I'm still secretly in charge (although don't tell them that, either, LOL).
