Between Seasons

Must See TV

I am so ready for the summer to be over, and for the fall season to begin. And, no, I don’t mean fall in a leaves-changing-and-hot-chocolate way – I live in Florida, and the temperature doesn’t start dropping here until late October. In fact, every year I have to find a Halloween costume for Sam that’s not a heat stroke waiting to happen, which is harder than you may think. They have lots of fairy and princess outfits for the little girls, but the boy costumes are all head-to-toe fake fur.

Anyway. What I’m anxiously waiting for is for the new television season to begin. I hate all of the cliff hangers they leave you with in the spring, and then force you to wait around for four months before you get any resolution.

So, here’s what I’m waiting for:

1. CSI. Grissom and Sara? In bed??? I mean, sure, they’ve always hinted at some sexual tension there, but to actually see it . . . shudder. It was just wrong. As wrong as Nick’s facial hair (what was up with that?). As wrong as Warrick’s odd, surprise elopement to a girl he’s never mentioned before. I need answers.

2. Gray’s Anatomy. Obviously. And, yes, you knew a Meredith/McDreamy reunion was coming, but I wasn’t quite expecting the quickie in the exam room while Mrs. McDreamy and McVet were just next door, at the, erm, prom. It gave the whole thing an unexpected ick factor. And if Izzy ends up back on the surgical rotation after the whole Killing Denny stunt, I’m going to throw things at my television.

3. Desperate Housewives. Actually, I’m not all that jazzed to see what happens, because the second season sucked so hard, I lost all interest. But Marc Cherry has promised much less suckage in the new season, so it may be worth a watch to see if he can pull it off.

4. Lost. Another show that lost its first season momentum, but worth watching just for a few of its really interesting characters. Like Sayid and Hurley. And . . . well, no, just Sayid and Hurley really. Although thankfully they bumped off Anna Lucia, so that may improve things on the Island.

5. The Amazing Race. There wasn’t a cliff hanger there, but I am, as always, eagerly awaiting the new season to start. Because with the enormous exception of the family version last fall, it remains the best show on television, reality and otherwise.

So what show are you eagerly waiting for? And are there any new ones coming out that look good?

This week's blog was brought to you by Between, Georgia, Joshilyn's bold, funny novel about a rural south Juliette, her redneck Romeo, and a family feud that blows Georgia's smallest town wide open.

HOUSE - Can't wait, can't wait.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - Navy Guy finally convinced me to give this a try; I'm going through from the beginning now to catch up. That show is amazingly well written. LOVE it, in spite of its constant and utter GRIM.

G.A. - I'm with you on the ick factor, although, unlike you, I always thought McDreamy was a slut. Not telling her he was married on the one-night stand? ok, he was separated. But after that? that was just slimy and gross. And then being judgmental about her and her parade of "dates" (which was also yucky, esp. with poor George) - hypocritical and slimy. Never a good combination, no matter how great his hair is. I would have stuck with the vet.

Find myself not caring about DH, sadly, after last season. I never watched LOST so have no idea what's going on and have never watched Amazing Race so will have to try it!

Whitney, I like those shows too except I've never seen The Amazing Race. My others are How I Met Your Mother and Prison Break. Ok, and not technically "Fall" programing but one of my faovirte... 24- was wondering how they'd top Jack "dying" and the president being assasinated. lol Thanks to NetFlix and summer programming, I will now start watcing Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars too. Now, what new shows have the rest of you seen previews for that look good? It's always a gamble picking one that will make it or just be cancelled a week later! LOL

I'm totally with you on the Amazing Race. It's the only reality show that I've ever watched, and I agree that it's one of the best shows on TV.

Gilmore Girls. It seems like this might be the last season and if Luke can't get it together and marry Lorelei, I think my heart might break.

House

Supernatural- Just got hooked on this one over the summer so I'm getting the first season DVDs to be able to watch the eps I haven't caught yet and be all ready for S2.

I think CSI totally lost me with the Grissom and Sara in bed stunt. I'd rather see him with Lady Heather.

Numbers

And because SciFi has such a messed-up "season" schedule, I've actually been getting new eps of SG-1 and Atlantis, so I'm not feeling the summer pain too badly.

And I'm really, really looking forward to the new Aaron Sorkin show with Matthew Perry. I've heard it's supposed to be fantastic.

Oh, yes, I've been looking forward to that new Matthew Perry show, too.

And for those of you who haven't seen The Amazing Race . . . you must, MUST watch it. Now that we have faux-Tivo, it's the only show I watch live, commercials and all.

Oh, man. Don't get me started on TV.

Returning shows:

GILMORE GIRLS: Despite last season's train wreck and the fact that I've never seen a show do well after the show runner leaves, I really want to see this show have a good final season.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: A great show. I was a little skeptical after last season's finale, but I'm interested in seeing where it goes.

THE OFFICE: Can't. Wait.

HOUSE: I thought S2 was weak during the Stacy storyline, but I loved the finale. Hopefully the quality will even out in S3.

GREY'S ANATOMY: You know, Meredith and McDreamy whatever. I'm in it for Preston Burke. Hemma hemma.

VERONICA MARS: Can't. Wait.

LOST: I hear people didn't like S2, but I thought it was every bit as good as S1. Can't wait to see what happens.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: Tanked in S2. Crash and burn. Will probably watch the first few episodes, but if there isn't marked improvement, I'm outta there. Shame, because S1 was so good.

New Shows...

STUDIO 60: Saw the pilot. Really liked it. Sorkin can get a little much after a while, but he's got a magic to him. And I love Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry. Even Amanda Peet is bearable in it.

30 ROCK: I can't stand Alec Baldwin, but I think I love Tina Fey enough to get over that. We'll see.

HEROES: This looks really interesting. It's got great buzz - we'll see!

Oh, man. I'm so very sad, aren't I?

For your little guy at Halloween. Dress him in a dark color. Then drape garbage bags over him torn into strips and give him a bottle of windex. Tell him to spin around while spraying- he'll be a car wash for Halloween. This may make him dizzy, but is both low cost and cool.

We're recycling last year's cowboy costume . . . maybe he'll even remember to say, "There's a new sheriff in town!" which I taught him last year, in lieu of "trick or treat."

Hrm ... Gray's Anatomy, Lost, Gilmore Girls, and a Canadian favorite - Corner Gas. Other than those shows, I'm not a loyal t.v. watcher.

Um, I've been living with only one channel for almost 4 years, so I'm psyched to have cable this season!

Veronica Mars - I have no idea what happened in season 2, but season 1 on dvd was delicious and I'm buying season 2 Tuesday so I'll be all caught up for season 3 this fall.

Studio 60 - I love SorkinTV, and it should replace the West Wing as my "tv to increase my vocabulary."

Six Degrees - Mainly because my kid brother's a production assistant on it and I want him to stay employed. I think everyone should watch it for this reason.

Uh... those of you who have been watching Lost-- I may need you to educate my butt in a HURRY-- I just found out that one of my particular lust-bunnies has just been added to the cast and... well... *whimper* I've had a thing for Rodrigo Santoro every since I saw him in LOVE ACTUALLY and I don't even LIKE most Latin men.

But him? Oooooh... I'd take him out behind the woodshed and ask him to do baaaaaaad things.

(And this is as fan-girly-like-Lani-is-about-Colin-Firth, as you'll ever see me get.)

I'm very excited for the fall season. I heard that Lost will be back mid-October with six new episodes and no re-runs, then it will break until mid-january and be back with like 12 episodes and no re-runs. I guess fans were upset that there were too many re-runs last season- Amen to that!

Ditto on Amazing Race, Grey's Anatomy, and DH.

As for new shows this coming season I am looking forward to the Matthew Perry show and the new one that has some very creative advertising called The Class.

I'm not to sure about Jericho or the one about the superhereos.

I haven't seen too many sitcoms being advertised, which is a shame.

Oh and Janet, Six Degrees does look interesting and I will definitely check it out!

GA and CSI across from one another this season is going to KILL me. No, we don't have TIVO in this neck of the woods, yet, so unless I start actually using my VCR, I am royally screwed. And Barb, I agree that Grissom should take up with Lady Heather. I could go for Bill Peterson with a dominatrix.

JUST got into Gilmore Girls... am way late to that party, but am hooked. Show runner leaving, Lani? Who? Who? Tellmetellmetellme! I so need to find a place to rent seasons 1 through whateverthehellwe'reonnow! I am so behind!

Anything else I am looking forward to? Nip/Tuck. It's a total trainwreck and I can't look away! This would be my guilty pleasure. Very guilty.

Cate, check Netflix . . . I've been renting the back seasons of Gilmore Girls there. I'm totally hooked!

I'm looking forward to a new season of Medium. All the CSI's too--I thought the Grissom/Sarah thing was a little weird but it has been hinted at for a LONG time, and it should add some interesting tension to the show this season. I didn't even finish the DH season--it got a little odd and boring and Susan is such a loser that I can't hardly cheer for her any more...
Another show my girls and I are anxiously anticipating is Wildfire, which I think is on ABC Family. Whatever happened to Smallville? It used to be on every night, and then it just disappeared... I also heard that 7th Heaven is NOT going to end after all--it got picked up for another season by whatever the WB and the other channel it merged with became. I hope so, because I want to see Ruthie grow up all the way! And I want Animal Planet to fight the National Geographic Channel for Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer--he is AMAZING!!! And I don't get NGC so I can't watch it any more! *pout*
