`Tis the Season
Well, almost.
Sorry, guys—this is going to be a short post because there’s giant lightning storm rolling in from the west and it’s only a matter of minutes until Mr. Tall charges in and insists on unplugging all electrical appliances.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled blog…
I have a confession to make: I started my Christmas shopping last weekend. I know. It’s wrong. So very, very wrong. But I can’t help myself.
Here’s the thing: I can’t face the prospect of doing ALL my holiday prep after Thanksgiving. There’s already party hosting and cleaning and decorating and baking to do. (Which reminds me: I promise to pass along the recipe for chocolate cranberry cheesecake when we get closer to December.) How do people manage to shop in addition to all that??? And not devolve into histroinic harpies???
So I spent Labor Day cruising around the Internet, picking out gifts for my nearest and dearest. When my sister called, I shared this news with her and her response was, and I quote: “LA LA LA LA, I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!!”
Oh, and do you want to hear the sickest, most depraved part of all? I already have fresh new boxes of holiday cards all ready to be signed, stamped, and sent out into the world. (They have dogs on them. Shocker.) I bought them 50% off last year after Christmas because I’m just that cheap and/or have a deep-seated control-freaky need to feel prepared.
What have I become? I used to mock people who started Christmas shopping in August! I was getting ready to break down and ask for help and then…
I went to the mall today and saw lots of shops breaking out their holiday décor. And I put my hands over my ears and shouted, “LA LA LA LA, I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!!”
Because, really. There are limits.

Totally against my grain, I've already finished a cross stitch project that I had intended to give as an xmas gift. It just needs to be wrapped. But THAT would be WAY past the whole "limit" thing...

Ok, I admit it...I'm guilty. I'm one of those people that start shopping for the next Christmas immediately after the current one. I'm always finding things throughout the year, and it's actually easier on the budget that way.

Oh. My. God.
I do all my shopping on Christmas Eve. Well, most of it, anyway.
I never send out cards.
I'm such a loser.

Beth, help me, please! I am one of the histrionic harpies. I hate hate hate Christmas and am miserable from Thanksgiving until my sister's birthday on January 6 (which officially ends the holiday season as far as I'm concerned). If I start shopping now, do you think I'll really be happier?

I always buy cards... I always forget to send them out. But I've got a whole bunch of my Christmas shopping done already. It's not my fault. Just today, for example, I got an email from ThinkGeek, with some absolutely perfect things for my sons. How could I resist?

I always want to be one of those people who shop early. It almost never happens, though. I have started the habit of buying things that make me think of certain people when I see them and then I try and stockpile them. So sometimes I'm a little a head of the game. This year, I'm going to give handmade jewelry to many folk, so that will be much easier.

I want to shop early. I even went so far as to ask the kids for lists, but it never seems to happen. You might have inspired me though, so we'll see.
~Lauren, who will probably spend Christmas Eve Day at the mall.

I too want to be an early shopper. I want to have a shelf in my closet where I keep a range of gifts that I can give at a moments notice. Instead I am one of those people who end up giving away cans of peaches on Halloween because I am poorly prepared. sigh.

I have tried to do the early shopping thing but it has never worked out. I would find the perfect gift and put in a "safe place", which of course would allude me until the next June. I'd end up racing around the "hell" that is the mall during the holidays hoping to find a suitable replacement. Although now with the miracle (or curse, depending on your perspective - LOL) that is the internet, even a late shopper like myself can seem so much more organized. ;-)

I cleaned out my closet last weekend and found some x-mas presents that I put in a "safe place" for last year, lol. I thought I was the only one who did that. So thanks Cindi for letting me know there's more of us out there. Luckily they were stocking stuffers for my daughters that I think will work this year too, if I remember that they are there...

Cowboy and I bought the first Christmas present yesterday! I'm feeling better about the season already! Well, it's actually a Hanukkah present, but why quibble? I hate Hanukkah just as much as I hate Christmas.
