Sunday Confessions
Forgive me, taste, for I have sinned...
Does anyone here watch Days of Our Lives? Anyone? Beuhler? Just me, huh? Well, can't say as I'm surprised, because it's been amazingly craptastic in recent years. Like, the last ten. Or fifteen. I don't know; whenever Patch died and Kayla went off with Shane and Marlena got possessed by the devil. Yep, I think you can pretty much date the craptaculousness of it all back to the possessed-by-the-devil storyline.
And yet, I watch. Mostly for Patch and Kayla, because they rocked it back in the 80's and now her hair is up to date and she's lost the shoulder pads and yeah, Patch has both come back from the dead and lost his memory (throw in a secret love child that may or may not be his and he'd hit the crapitudinous soap opera storyline trifecta) but still... I watch, hoping against all hope that the new head writer will bring it back to its glory days before someone walked in the writer's room and said, "Hey, what if we have Marlena get possessed by the devil?"
Part of me is, understandably, embarrassed to admit my obsession to y'all, mostly because it's... well... embarrassing. But part of me takes a weird kind of pleasure in enjoying things that are, admittedly, kinda stupid. You know, there's a word for taking odd pleasure in someone else's misfortune - schadenfreude. Do they have one for taking pleasure in having no taste? If so, baby, that's me.
Big plaid, flannel shirts. I don't know if it's because I met Fish while I was in Alaska wearing big, flannel shirts every day, but I have a weakness. There's nothing remotely flattering about them. Not a single redeeming characteristic. They make you look like a lumberjack whale, but I just love them.
Cheap wine. I have to admit, I'm a fan. I can't tell a "good" bottle of wine from a "bad" one, but I can tell you that if it's under $6 a bottle, it's good in my book. And in my fridge. And in my glass. Just a minute... gotta go refill.
Hello Kitty. Okay, y'all know about this. I have the Hello Kitty toaster. (Thanks, Alesia!!!) I covet the Hello Kitty phone. The Hello Kitty Diamond Pendant kinda scares me, but still. I heart the Kitty. I really do.
So, what are your guilty pleasures? Before you tell me, though, congratulate berni, the winner of a signed copy of Maybe Baby from last week's Daddy's a Target contest! berni, e-mail me!

I used to watch DoOL too! Solely for Patch and Kayla and stopped when Marlena got possessed. I did NOT know Patch was back! hmmm...
My guilty pleasures? Stuffed animals. I love them and still have some and have a hard time telling the Widget no when he wants one. In fact, I have a Ty Chitraka because I thought it was so damned cute!
Also, there's Peter Rabbit. Just love that story and if I find something with him on it, I gotta have it (kinda like your Hello Kitty thing).
Stationary supplies. Just gotta have me pretty papers and pens and stickers and markers. It's a sickness. Sadly, abundantly fueled by the whole scrapbooking craze (which, sadly, I am solidly into, even if I rarely get anything done).
Crafts. Currently, I'm making MY Halloween costume, Widget's costume...just made a holiday table cloth and one to cover the ugly desk in my living room and pillow covers. It's a sickness, I tell you!

My latest guilty pleasure?
The Greg Behrendt Show (http://gregbtv.com). It comes on at eleven, the perfect time for me to take a break from writing and hop on the ole stairmaster and get some exercise and watch my new big brother, Greg, explain it all.
He "rocks" everything. Rock can mean that he had sex or it can mean that he watched a TV show or that he thought it was a good show. He has a mullet. I don't care that it's spikey, it's still a mullet. And I love him.

Hello, my name is Hope and I was born at the same time as Hope Alice Williams Brady. So yeah, I watch DOOL. And it is beyod craptastic, but I am holding out hope that it gets better, and Sami/Lucas finally get it together.
My guilty pleasure, I am addicted to collecting toys. I have Barbies, CPK, stuffed animals, Eeyore beanies, you name it and I probably have it, or want it.

Cheetos. But they have to be the puffy ones, not the crunchy fried ones.
Diet Coke. Way, way too much of it.
New one? Mike's Mikaritas - pour them over ice and yummy!

For me its BBQ Fritos. I am talking YUMMO, to quote my other guilty pleasure, Rachel Ray. I know the gal should switch to decaf, but I just love her!! She's also a killer cook and I've gotten a few good recipes. However, nothing yet that includes Fritos, but its just a matter of time. LOL

Do I hear Frito Pie, anyone?

I used to watch Days all the time. Marlene getting possessed freaked me right out. And I never forgave Kayla for the Shane thing. I was a HUGE Mike and Robin fan, back before Dr. Mike became "the Pretender". Then I loved Dr. Mike and Carrie. Never could stand Austin.
Anyhoo, I'm also a fan of the Mikaritas, as evidenced by the empty bottle currently catching flies on my front porch.
My real guilty pleasure is 80's era teen angst films. "Pretty in Pink", "St Elmos Fire", "Some kind of Wonderful", "Dirty Dancing", "The last American Virgin", "Can't Buy Me Love", and I can recite every single last line of "The Breakfast Club". Now, with a 14 y.o. daughter, I have plenty of excuses to watch them!

I loved Hope and Bo in the 80s. ;-)

Okay, so am I total non-culinary chick for thinking very long and hard about trying that Frito pie?? Thank you Eileen!
Tall and Handsome may get a new taste sensation very soon. LOL

Dee--ooo! *squeal* "Sixteen Candles"--all time fave!! "Breakfast Club".... (sigh)
And Lani, if you can admit to watching DoOL, then I can admit to being a major General Hospital fan from WAY back!! I don't watch it much now but my husband watches it every day!! I still catch it here and there but they keep changing the cast that I have to ask DH who is who anymore!! I used to watch DoOL for awhile, but I think I may get it mixed up with All My Children now.... That's so sad...
Flannel shirts are SO awesome! I love the darn things but sadly I think my husband has managed to throw all of mine away.
I collect teddy bears, especially bears from the Build A Bear stores--I can't go in the place without walking out with a new one!
And I am now an official redneck--went to a Monster Truck show and *blush* I LOVED IT!! Grave Digger is the coolest!

Current future guilty pleasure planned for the weekend is to have a marathon TV session with the first two seasons of Veronica Mars (I got the DVDs on my trip to NJ, heh heh).

Cindi,
Remember that Frito Pie MUST BE SERVED IN THE ACTUAL FRITO BAG! It's very important. :-)

You know, SONIC serves the BEST Frito chili pies. There was a SONIC right across the street from my Grams' house, and it was always the highlight of the summer when we got to cross the road for a FCP and a Cherry Limeade (extra cherries, extra limes!). Of course, we also got fried pickle-os. Is there anything better than a batter-deep-fried dill pickle? I think NOT!
Posted by: dee at October 10, 2006 5:00 PM
Eileen: Yes, I noted in the recipe that the serving dish is the bag. Oh Tall and Handsome has some treat in store for him. LOL
Dee: I think there is one poor Sonic left standing in my area. Its a shame, really. I love the place.

OMG, chili Fritos. That sounds so good right now. Probably not a good thing to inflict on a stomach recovering from the flu, though.
I gave up on DOOL when Marlena was possessed. I mean, I could handle all the times that Stephano came back from the dead but even I have my limits! Sadly, I don't think they ever rebounded from that. And they should have been able to. I mean, GH survived the whole Casey-the-Alien storyline....*sigh* Now I'm longing for the "good old days" on GH. Not that I get the chance to see anything any more but I would record if it were worth it!
Current guilty pleasures are Surivor and cheesy sci-fi series like Battlestar Galactica. I'm still depressed over the cancelling of Firefly.

Used to love DOOL. I would plan my whole day around it but stopped watching about 10 years ago. Got too silly for me.
My new guilty pleasture was introduced to me by Dee and it is Mudslides. She made them for me at NJRWA conference. good stuff. Also am a stationary nut. Love pens and pads and stuff. Love Lani's books too. REad them all.

Hey Lani! I was in Target today (giggle) and saw a Hello Kitty Cool Mist Vaporizer! I immediately thought of you and seriously considered buying it and mailing it up to you. LOL

Oh, dear. That is just scary. I made fun of Monster Trucks in a big way in NICE GIRLS. LOL.
And Battlestar Galactica is SO NOT CHEESY!! It's one of the best-written dramas on TV!! LOVED Firefly, too.
