Casa De Fish Thanksgiving Live Blog #1
Aaaaaannnnnd.... we're off.
Time: 8:23am
Things Accomplished: Turkey is in the brine. I repeat, Turkey is in the brine. In a big bucket, in my garage, because it wouldn't fit in the refrigerator. The way I see it, it's Turkey-0, Lani-1. Also, I got the cream whipped, the cranberry salad all made, and the cookies baked. Kids don't like pumpkin pie, so I had to add chocolate chip cookies (the Pillsbury kind that is already made and you just break off hunks, don't go thinking I've gone all Martha Stewart on y'all.)
Fights Had: 1
About: Fish promised he'd clean the house if I did all the cooking. After taking care of turkey, cranberry salad, getting the kids' breakfast, making coffee and bringing it to him in bed, I kindly suggested he maybe get started on the house. He whined, I delivered smackdown, he's still in the bed next to me. I'm not sure who won.
Things Forgotten: Cranberry sauce. Stuffing. (I know, I know, DUH) And I think we need more whipped cream.
Who's Going to The Store: So. Totally. Fish.
Glasses of wine drunk: None. Yet.
Grateful for: The wine I know I'll be having later. Oh, and Fish. Because he's so totally going to the store.
More to come!!! Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Lani, you're awesome! Being trapped in the UK for grad school, this is my second year in a row without Thanksgiving. No turkey, no Macy's parade, no cats looking at me with their big eyes guilting me in to feeding them bits of food. It sucks. But the live blogging will really make my day...and help me procrastinate writing that research paper that's due tomorrow. :)
Take care and hope you and yours have a happy, healthly and non-fire deparment related Thanksgiving!

Why didn't you TELL me you had a family recipe for cranberries, woman? Sounds like you have things under control so far, except for Fish. Tell him to slide into that French maid's outfit and start vacuuming.
I'm getting off easy this year -- going to my mom's, so all I did was make a pecan pie and select several bottles of wine. Most of which are going to be for me, if I'm going to get through the afternoon. Yee-hah....

Christina - so sorry you're missing out on the festivities! Your homeland misses you! But I'm glad I can send a little bit of the horror and burning turkey-flesh to you over the pond. Stick with me - we're in for a bumpy ride!
Reb - LOL - yes, I have a cranberry salad recipe which I love, but I also really love cranberries, so thank you for yours! Have a wonderful day at your mom's, give her my best, and DRINK THAT WINE!!!

I've got the wine at the ready and the phone next to me. Call if you need help. This could be one of the best turkey days on record!

You know, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using StoveTop Stuffing mix--just add a little bit of celery and whtever else you like and it will be just like home made, except it only takes like five minutes to make on the stove... Make sure Fish takes a cell phone with him so you can add to the list while he is there.
[I should have given you one of MY recipes--it is the easiest thing in the world, even Sweetness and Light could throw it together. One box of Jello Sugar Free (eight servings) of your favorite flavor (I usually use Strawberry/Kiwi or Strawberry/Banana, but any flaver is good), 2 8 oz Cool Whip, 1 16oz cottage cheese with pineapple. Throw everything together into a bowl--leave the Jello dry, just toss it in--and stir everyting together and chill. It is the most AWESOME salad--we all fight over it! AND it's E.A.S.Y!!! *grin* ]
I am having my first cup of coffee here and toasting you--sounds like you have everything under control so far. Fish, get up and get moving--dust waits for no man! And don't forget those toilets! French maid's uniform--*giggle* Now THERE'S an image to keep me going for the day! "Fish"nets and stillettos to go with it, perhaps?! Oo, la, la!! *snort* Go Lani!
