Whiskers on Kittens
Some of my Favorite Things
I've been a little down lately. Nothing terrible, just a little blue. I didn't even realize it until a friend asked why I was so subdued and I realized I was falling into some old and not so good patterns. So, instead of getting myself get stuck in the usual mental muck and mud, I'm going to focus on the positive and damn it, I expect you to focus on them with me!
Here is a list of a few things that have been making me happy lately.
Dryer Sheets
In addition to keeping my laundry static-free and smelling outdoorsy fresh, I read in the paper that they're great at cleaning soap scum off of shower doors. I practically couldn't wait to jump in the shower and try it out. Guess what? They work. In fact, they work great. They also seem to be getting rid of a bunch of the hard water build up and when you're done, your shower smells outdoorsy fresh! Honestly, it's awesome.
Mike's Light Hard Lemonade
It is no secret that I have a sweet tooth and a taste for liquor. I love all those Mike's Hard products, but they're so sweet and sugary they usually give me a headache. Plus, I can't help imagining how many calories are in those suckers. Well, now they have a Light Hard Lemonade that's pretty darn tasty and only 78 calories. That means I can have TWO of them for only 3 Weight Watcher's points and considering that I'm a bit of a light weight, that's plenty for an evening for me.
Lip Plumping Lip Gloss
No one would ever confuse me with Angelina Jolie. Okay, there may be reasons besides my skinny lips for that, but the skinny lip thing was really starting to bug me. Especially since I noticed Sissy One's (whom I resemble closely) lips were actually starting to thin to the point of actually being non-existent. I was going to buy my usual boring lip gloss at the drugstore when I noticed the lip plumping kind (on sale, even!). Voila! My lips might not actually be luscious, but there is a visible difference which gives me hope that I won't have to be drawing my lips on with liner in a few years.
That's what's making me happy this week. Yeah, yeah, yeay, healthy kids and a loving family and all the usual stuff, too, but some times that's just not quite enough, you know? So what's floating your boat this week? I may need something new to keep me getting out of bed next week.

I totally get where you're coming from... and making a list of things that make you happy is always good therapy! Here's mine:
1. It's finally snowing! It's only a couple of inches, not even enough to delay school here this morning, but we've had almost none and we usually have so much, that I'm truly happy to see it.
2. A birthday party for the dog. Yes, we had one. Yes, there was a cake. Yes, we sang. But we love him and he's part of the family. And hey, it was an excuse to have cake!
3. Two weeks post-op, I'm feeling well enough to do stuff. And I have two weeks off from work left! I'm getting to spend a good chunk of time focusing on my writing, rather than why I have no time to write and it's been GREAT!

3.) The snow is melting :( but that means I dont have to wear 10billion layers to go outside anymore!:)

The book EAT PRAY LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert, which I've been reading in small doses.
Looking at my son, who lost both front teeth in a matter of days and now looks incredibly cute and silly.
The sun! The sun! The sun!

Dryer sheets--really. As soon as I post this I gotta go try that out!
What makes me happy? Spending some quality time with my kids and hubby this past weekend. It's been so long since we have been able to do things as a family because of work and school schedules. This weekend we went to my home town of Ripon for the 45th almond Blossom Festival. the girls hung out at the carnival with friends on Friday, then met up with us Saturday for the Diaper Derby (my great nephew participated) and then we watched the parade with my sister and her family. Ended the evening with dinner with my aunt and cousin and various assorted relatives for my aunt's 65th birthday.
Tea. I am on a tea kick ever since I bought my RED tea kettle (check out JCF for more about my RED tea kettle!!). In fact, I just went to my account at Gevalia and ordered some Blackberry Spice and Orange Cinnamon teas--they sound yummy!! My oldest daughter has joined me in my obsession, which is great since she is down with a pretty bad cold today and hot tea is just the ticket to feeling better.
It's raining. Not so great for the almond blossoms, but we really need the rain since we have been pretty dry so far this year. And I loved the hail storms we had over the weekend, complete with thunder and lightning! I love a good storm, as long as I am inside! *grin*

Do you use used or unused dryer sheets on the shower? I may have to invest in some (Downy currently makes my laundry April Fresh!)
My current drink du jour is Smirnoff Twisted in Wild Grape. Tastes just like grape juice, only not as sweet, with a little kick to it. Yum! (I only like alcohol that doesn't taste like alcohol...)(Also, I am cheap and refuse to pay big bucks for booze.)
I also hear you on the blues. I'm trying hard not to succumb by focusing in on happy things and attempting to not stress over my mom being in the hospital for the second time in three weeks currently.

Unused dryer sheets. You get them wet and scrub away. It's fabulous.
To everyone who has had surgery or has had someone in the hospital, you have my sympathy. It's so hard!
To everyone with suggestions, thank you! I am particularly smitten with the hot chocolate and godiva liquer concept. Sounds tasty!

1. Abba songs. Yes I'm that old. They just came on MusicMax and they had crooked teeth, poochy tummies and crinkles around the eyes. I love them for the fact that they were considered two of the hottest chicks on the planet and yet had so-called flaws. Oh and I can sing along and know all the words.
2. KFC boneless breast piece of chicken for lunch (I had PMS and deserved it)
3. The kids were at school and I ate the chicken on my own, didn't have to buy a heap of other stuff and DID NOT have to SHARE.
Oh and I am going to have to buy dryer sheets now.

Abba songs, eh? Have you ever seen Muriel's Wedding? If you haven't, run out right now and rent it. Anyone who appreciates Abba songs will appreciate that movie. It's one of my favorites. Thanks for reminding me of it. I might have to watch it tonight!

Speaking of ABBA, I hear that there are plans in the works to turn Mamma Mia! into a film. I loved the play so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can do it justice. And I definitely need to see Muriel's Wedding again. It's been far too long.

Good list. Never had Mikes Hart Lite Lemonade, but maybe I'll try it.
My list includes:
FINALLY coming up with a recipe for healthy cookies that don't taste like s**t. (it's all about the sugar free maple syrup--though i'm sure that's bad for you in a million other ways).
"The Greatest" by Cat Power. Okay, so it kinda makes you feel more depressed, but sometimes its nice to curl up and enjoy feeling down.
"Veronica Mars"--the best show on television.
activeendeavors.com--whats a better cheerer-upper than shopping? and they have sweet sales.

I'm totally with you on Veronica Mars, Alex. We love it. I thought the last episode was a little wild though. Things kept whipping around awfully fast.
