Tradition!

A fabulous DIY project for the whole family!

It is time once again for the birthday gauntlet at my house. Four birthdays in sixteen days. I'm not even sure if Bruce Willis could survive it. Live Free or Eat Cake Harder!

To make things easier, we had one big family birthday for all four of us last night. It was truly special when my mom, both kids and I gathered around the four sides of the cake where we'd arranged those number candles with each of our ages and made our wish together. Plus, it was extra special because the little pink ballerina was in the center of the cake. It's our birthday tradition. Actually, we call it a wobberina because that's what my niece said she wanted to be when she was two and couldn't say ballerina.

None of us are entirely certain how it started anymore. I think it might have been my dad's birthday and the package of candles had a little ballerina in it and I stuck it on the cake to be funny.

Now nobody considers it to be a real birthday unless there's a cake with the wobberina on it. Strange? Yes. But we love it and it's our birthday tradition.

So does your family have any strange traditions that you've started?

I don't know if it is strange, but no family gathering would be complete without The Jello Salad. It is the easiest thing in the world to make and the task of bringing it to every function has now been offcially passed down to me. Maybe because I find it too challenging to bring anything more difficult to make? Not sure, but it is a family favorite. In fact, my daughter just whipped up a batch for today's event. I have even passed it on to my best friend's family gatherings and have to make it for them also!! LOL!

Quickly: You take 16 oz of Cool Whip, 16 oz cottage cheese w/pineapple, and one box of sugar Free Jello (8 servings) in your choice of flavors. We used to do lime, but I started using Strawberry Kiwi or Strawberry Banana and that has stuck. Today we did Peach and I have to admit I love the lightness of it! Whip everything together in large plastic container and let set in fridge for an hour or so. (Jello is just put in dry--no mixing with water or anything.) I guarantee that everyone will love it!! Even the hard to please little ones! Enjoy!!

Every holiday my aunt asks me to bring MY "special" meatballs. They are actually Costco meatballs, but everyone thinks I make them homemade (I never said as much, they just assumed and I let them). It makes me laugh every time. A good tradition.

Here's some more traditional traditions:
-We always go to the same "cut your own" Christmas tree farm to get our tree.

-We always have an egg coloring contest for Easter and a pumpkin carving contest for Halloween (we're a competitive family)

-We always have a special Fall Harvest dinner on the Autumn Equinox, just the 3 of us. No big "Thanksgiving" till much later. It's great.

Traditions are great!
